Mille-feuille

Mille-feuille

There is no better way to bring people together than with desserts.

Gail Simmons

One of my favorite French dessert is the mille-feuille.

Mille-feuille means a thousand sheets. This special dessert is made using puff pastry layered with pastry cream.

This dish is made with three layers of puff pastry and layers of crème pâtissière or custard.  The top pastry layer can be sprinkled with powdered sugar or covered with fondant or you have chocolate and cream icing.

There are many variations of the mille-feuille. The most well know variation is called the Napoléan.

Some chefs even make savoury versions of the mille-feuille.

If you ever visit a French cafe or pastry shop, do try out the mille-feuille.

Bienvenue à Paris

Bienvenue à Paris

Bienvenue à Paris, les filles sont si jolies
Welcome to the city we’re glad to know you’re here
Bienvenue à Paris la fête n’est pas finie
Welcome to the city it’s nice to see you here

Bill bAXTER

Bienvenue à Paris is a very interesting song that was released in 1987 by the band Bill Baxter collaborating with Tippa Irie.

The band members of Bill Baxter were Joe Cool, Louis Primo and Bo Gesture.

The song welcomes you to Paris and takes you on a little tour and mentions some very interesting sites from Champs-Elysées to the Tour Eiffel. And we also hear mentions of things that we truly associate with Paris from bread dipped in butter, the French cancan, the French taxi to Cartier jewellery.

A super friendly and super peppy number that takes you to Paris and back and encourages you to visit the city.

Aux Champs-Elysées

Aux Champs-Elysées

Aux Champs-Elysées, aux Champs-Elysées

Au soleil, sous la pluie, à midi ou à minuit

Il y a tout ce que vous voulez aux Champs-Elysées

Joe Dassin

This wonderful song sung by Joe Dassin and written by Pierre Delanoë, Mike Wilsh, Mike Deighan truly captured the essence of Champs-Elysées.

For those of you who have never heard this song, do listen to it.

What is special about ‘Les Champs-Elysées’? It is one of the best attractions in Paris. It is an Avenue that runs between Place de la Concorde and Place Charles de Gaulle, where you will find the Arc de Triomphe.

This beautiful avenue is a busy commercial place. It attracts visitors both night and day. You will find a large number of international fashion brand stores and businesses set up here.

Christmas time will see the avenue  lit up with holiday lights.

14th July( sometimes referred to as Bastille day) is a big occasion. The military parade passes down Les Champs-Elysées.

Did you know that since 1975,it has been the finishing destination of the Tour de France?

As Joe Dassin sings, ‘At Champs-Elysées, at Champs-Elysées, In sunshine, in rain, at midday or midnight. You will find whatever you need at Champs-Elysées’. The allure of Champs-Elyées is certainly worth the visit.

Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel

“In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.”

~ Coco Chanel

This describes Gabrielle “Coco Chanel” perfectly. She lived life on her terms. Having grown up in poverty, she built a life by using her skills and connections. Today her fashion brand is well known the world over. She popularized casual chic and her designs were meant to be worn without a corset.  She also designed the popular interlocked cc monogram that is associated with her brand since 1920. Her empire now boasts fashionable clothing, bags, perfumes, cosmetics and accessories.

“Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.”
~ Coco Chanel

I believe that her brand did embody this thought. Everything about her brand was classy and elegant.

She was unapologetically unique. Despite all the controversy surrounding her love life and her alleged spy work, she tirelessly focused on doing what she wanted, when she wanted and did it the best way, she knew she could. There is something to admire about Coco Chanel. I love some of her quotes. She recreated her life the way she wanted it to be.

“I don’t care what you think of me. I don’t think of you at all.”

~ Coco Chanel

Sisterhood

Sisterhood

“Sisters are different flowers from the same garden.”

Eva & Sarah, my sisters are such an inspiration.

When I first talked about launching my own online tutoring business, my sisters Eva and Sarah, were my cheerleaders. They encouraged me and urged me to make it a reality. Eva is a mom of three lovely children who is homeschooling them and a blogger too. Despite her busy schedule being mom of three and writing her blog, she created a fantastic brochure and put together my website. Thanks to my sister Sarah I now have a beautiful logo which was designed by a good friend of hers. I now have an online presence, brochure and an amazing logo.

I’m blessed to have such amazing and talented sisters.

Please visit and follow Eva’s blog Parenting Freestyle.

My sister Sarah has an online business selling unique handcrafted earrings called Colour Me Wild on Instagram.

“Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.”

Anais Nin

John Luker is a blessed and wonderful friend, a creative genius with a generous heart. I met him through his sister Maria and his wonderful wife Ethel (who passed away last December and is with the Lord. She was a beautiful soul.)

John and I were casually chatting when I mentioned by struggles with my site Voila Français. I did not know of his interests in designing sites nor of his amazing skills. He took a look at my site and selflessly helped me to revamp it. Words cannot express my gratitude. He was truly God sent. He transformed my site from a caterpillar form to a beautiful butterfly. Thank you John.

John has a wonderful blog called “Eat Luv Live“. It shares his journey with healthy eating, loving, and living. Please do visit his site.
